  • Chair’s Welcome

The Chair firstly offered thanks to the Burton Conservation volunteers who spent two days clearing the pond and surrounding undergrowth at the Village Green and replacing the pond liner. A further thanks went to Tom Salt for the topsoil which allowed the volunteers to dam off a section to protect some of the vegetation and effect create two ponds within one, with the larger section being re-lined so that it should now hold water all year round. It will also make the liner much easier to replace when it deteriorates which it will inevitably do over time, this being a man-made pond. The Townlands Charity were also offered thanks for their generous donation of £200 for the upkeep of the defibrillator and £250 to cover the cost of the replacement pond liner.

The parish council currently have a Community Fund application in with ESBC to look at supporting the costs of the work undertaken.

The Chair gave thanks as well to Ian Gregson for repairing the bench which sits on the unmetalled part of Martins Lane. It’s had a complete overhaul and is now safe to sit on again and gaze out across what must be one of the most beautiful views in Staffordshire.

A final thank you went to Cllr Bailey for attending the remembrance service at Rangemore. Cllr Harrison will be attending the Fauld Memorial service on 27th Nov.

Lastly, the chair mentioned the issue of dog poo being left on the road, pavements, and verges. Dog owners are requested to use the 3 dog poo bins – one at each end of Chapel Lane and another by the Cock Inn.

  1. Councillors Reports

Cllr Tyson discussed the grounds maintenance contract that is currently out for tender. At time of writing two contractors have expressed interest and have visited site. The closing date was 13th Nov and final decisions will be made at the December meeting.

A 3 monthly routine inspection of the trees in the closed churchyard was completed on 4th Nov, no obvious changes from last inspection. Concerns re the Yew tree remain valid and is an issue that the PC will need to address in the medium term.

Cllr Tyson also noted that several trees around the village, mainly on SCC land, are in poor condition, this issue will be raised with Cllr White during the next meeting.

Cllr Harrison discussed the poster that she has created for volunteers to help with keeping the village tidy. The schedule of this was discussed with roughly a bi-monthly volunteer day taking place.

Finally, Cllr Bailey discussed the memorial hall meeting with a concern raised for the rising cost in energy which may result in increased hire charges. He also detailed the following events that will take place in the village. Christmas Fayre on 3rd December at the Village Hall, The Carol Service on 18th December at the church and finally the quiz on 28th December that will also take place in the village hall
