Hanbury Playing Field
We were delighted to receive a grant from the Duchy recently with which we have been able to purchase a super, new 8-seater picnic bench and install it on the Playing Field. Thankfully, it came just in time for the all too brief warm snap just before Easter, and it was fantastic to see it being used by four local children the very next day. They had also bought a couple of balls with them for a kick about on the football pitch in the sunshine.
If the last 14 months have taught us anything it is the value of open spaces which we can all use and enjoy safely. The playing field is just such a space and called ‘the playing field’ because that’s exactly what it used to be -the playing field for the village school, which shut in 1985. In those days if would have been used for running races, outdoor games and all manner of ball sports like quick cricket, short tennis, rounders and football, of course. We may not have super, duper play equipment like in other local villages, however we can surely make use of this lovely spot in the heart of our village for picnics, games and family gatherings. We hope you enjoy it.
